Ms Zindzi Tendo

MSc Student

Zindzi Tendo recently completed her MSc, with her research focused on developing a risk assessment tool for water reuse- using the University of Cape Town (UCT) as a case study.

The research focused on the risks associated with the use of greywater, rainwater, and stormwater for non-potable use. By applying scientific risk assessment methods, such as the QMRA framework, alongside site-specific factors like water reuse potential, environmental conditions, and infrastructure suitability, the research developed a decision-support framework to guide water reuse implementation. The findings contribute to UCT’s Khusela Ikamva project, which aligns with the university’s Vision 2030 Agenda for a sustainable and water resilient campus.

The tool can be adapted to offer practical insights for policymakers, urban planners, and sustainability stakeholders interested in scalable water reuse strategies. It can also be used for educational purposes on risk awareness with water reuse.
