Mr Sange Sakwe
Sange is an MSc (Eng) student in Civil Engineering at the Future Water Institute, University of Cape Town (UCT) under the supervision of Prof. Neil Armitage and co-supervisor Dr. John Okedi. His research The Stormwater Quality and Quantity Implications of Transforming Detention Ponds into Multi-Purpose Facilities in Cape Town. The research focuses on sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) and their implementation in cities to address the challenges of urbanisation and climate change. Sange joined the Future Water Institute in 2024 after earning his BSc (Eng) in
Civil Engineering from UCT. He is currently in his final year as an MSc (Eng) student in the Pathways to Water Resilient South African Cities (PAWS) project.
Sange’s research focuses on the transition from conventional grey infrastructure to SuDS in stormwater management. This paradigm shift is essential for enhancing resilience, improving water quality, and mitigating the impacts of urbanisation and climate change. By integrating Nature-Based Solutions, his work explores innovative approaches to managing stormwater management that prioritise ecological sustainability.
