Ms Emily Nicklin
Emily is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the Department of Environmental and Geographical Sciences at the University of Cape Town. She is working towards completing a dissertation entitled “Nature-based solutions for addressing the persistence and toxicity of emerging contaminants in highly polluted surface waters”. Driven by a passion for learning and a dedication to making a meaningful impact on the water sector in South Africa, Emily has actively contributed to various water-related organisations. As a research assistant, she has been involved in various projects at the Association for Water and Rural Development, African Climate Development Initiative, the Future Water Research Institute and the African Research Universities Alliance's Water Centre of Excellence at Rhodes University. Beyond her academic pursuits, Emily volunteers her time as a dedicated member of the Friends of the Liesbeek River committee. In this role, she actively participates in initiatives aimed at restoring and maintaining the ecological health of the Liesbeek River, a vital watercourse in Cape Town.
